The iconic MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston was ablaze with raw energy and nostalgic charm when Taking Back Sunday took the stage supported by Citizen on August 14, 2024. This dynamic double-bill brought together two iconic bands from different ends of the emo and post-hardcore spectrum, delivering a night that was as emotionally charged as it was sonically powerful.
A blend of emo, post-hardcore and alternative rock reverberated throughout the venue as Citizen took the stage creating a stellar opening for the evening. The band delivered tight, punchy performances while lead vocalist Mat Kerekes commanded the attention of the audience. Highlights included “The Night I Drove Alone and “Sleep,” which were met with enthusiastic responses from the crowd.
The energy in the music venue shifted to a new level when Taking Back Sunday took the stage. Being a band known for their explosive shows and emotionally charged lyrics, they didn’t disappoint. Their setlist was a perfect mix of old favorites and newer material, offering a nostalgic trip through their career while also showcasing their evolution as artists. The crowd was immediately transported back to the mid-2000s when they played songs like, “MakeDamnSure” and “Cute Without the ‘E’ (Cut from the Team)” with the whole venue singing every word back to Adam. Taking Back Sunday continues to remind us exactly why they were at the forefront of the emowave.
