“Boston is our favorite place to play. You can fact check me. I’ve never said that in any other place, not even our home town.” – Travis, We the Kings 01.12.24
January 12, 2024 at House of Blues Boston, Youth Fountain, We the Kings and Story of the Year took the stage to remind us that emo’s not dead – even after 20 years after the release of Story of the Year’s, Page Avenue.
Hailing from Vancouver, BC, Youth Fountain was first to take the stage. It was early but it was already a packed house and Youth Fountain grabbed the attention of every person that was there. With their nostalgic blend of emo and pop-punk they got the crowd warmed up in anticipation for what was left to come.
Shortly after, We the Kings took the stage. With Travis donning a bear hoodie and starting off strong with the fan favorite oldie, “Skyway Avenue,” the energy in the venue soared. They played an 8 song set filled with hits to satisfy old and new school fans alike. They were nostalgic and energetic leaving the entire venue craving more.
Finally, after much anticipation, celebrating 20 years of Page Avenue Story of the Year took the stage. The band played an 18 song setlist including the entirety of Page Avenue mixed with a few fan favorites from their other albums. The energy on the stage and in the crowd was electric and Dan’s crowd interaction kept everyone engaged throughout the entire hour and half. All the “elder emo’s” were celebrating this huge milestone in the band’s history and reliving the feelings and freedoms of our youth. Story of the Year closed out the show with the song everyone was waiting for, “Until the Day I Die.” It was the perfect close to a nostalgic and extraordinary night. The whole time it felt like we had been transported back to the early 2000’s at the Vans Warped Tour.
