Acclaimed singer-songwriter-pianist Neal Francis made his highly anticipated return November 12th with the release of his new single, “Back It Up,” available now via ATO Records. The track comes with an official music video, now on YoutTube.
This marks Francis first new music in nearly two years. On “Back It Up,” the Chicago-based artist effortlessly glides over the infectious synth grooves and a swaggering riff, infusing the song with a carefree energy that contrasts with the over-the-top confessions of a romantic longing. That song went through a few different phases before we got to the final iteration,” Francis says. “It took me a while to accept that it’s okay to have fun with the lyrics, instead of making everything so serious all the time.”
Recognized by SPIN as “a mesmerizing performer,” Francis is set to celebrate the release of “Back It Up” – and more music to come – with a series of headlining performances. This includes the eagerly awaited two night homecoming show at Chicago’s iconic Thalia Hall on December 13-14. In 2025, Francis will head to Riviera Cancun, Mexico for Bobby Weir’s Dead Ahead event from January 9-13, followed by a performance at the renowned Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia on April 17-20. Additional tour dates will be announced soon. For full tour details and ticket information visit nealfrancis.com/tour.
