I think we can all still feel the effects and nostalgia from our Myspace days. In some ways it shaped a lot of us into the persons we are today and Meth Math captures those feelings perfectly in their new single, “Myspace. With an experimental and catchy instrumental sound, surrounded by deep, melancholy lyrics,“Myspace” makes you nostalgic for the early internet and social media days from the first 30 seconds. They bring a video to accompany the new single which can only be described as a “cyber-fever-dream.”
Meth Math elaborates on the meaning of, “Myspace” noting, “Myspace’ is a medieval-emo reggaeton song about the nostalgia of losing a friend, who happened to be a ghost that somehow got trapped inside the deep web. We wanted to have a song that elaborated on the strong feelings that were witnessed by obsolete social networks, so in a sense this is part of a case study in our journey to understand technology better… so in a way ‘Myspace’ serves as an experiment that is driven by some sort of Internet archaeology, analyzing the tragic end of a virtual relationship within the context of one of the very first digital communities to ever exist.”
You can hear Meth Math’s newest single, “Myspace,” along with 8 others on their debut album, Chupetunes, out February 2nd, 2024.
