As they approach their one year anniversary, K-Pop group BXB—Boys By Brush—have just released their second single album: Chapter 2. Wings.
Of the three tracks, the first, “Black Cat Nero,” is an intense, experimental cover of TURBO’s 1995 adaption of the Italian children’s song “Volevo un gatto nero.” The others, “Airplane” and “Found You” are bright, sweet songs of youth and love.
Last week, Sworn By Sound had the opportunity to attend a press conference where the four members—Jihun, Hyunwoo, Hamin, and Siwoo—spoke extensively about their past year and new release.
“It seems like we were just a week away from our debut, but we are now thinking of celebrating our first anniversary.” Siwoo recalls the milestones they have hit in their first year. “I think a lot about the congratulations we received from you all on our 100, 200 and 300 days anniversaries. On the 100th day, we met the fans in person to celebrate.” Siwoo says that celebrations like these were his favorite part of 2023.
When recounting the process of making Chapter 2: Wings, rapper and dancer Hyunwoo mentions the “Airplane” music video shoot as a memorable moment. “We filmed on a public bus and at the airport in a public place. It was really amazing because I felt like I had an experience that I wouldn’t normally experience.” Since they shot at an airport, Hyunwoo says “it was so much fun that [he] honestly felt a little unfortunate [that he didn’t actually travel].”
Despite their recent debut, BXB have a good number of international fans. When asked about the language barrier, Jihun says: “Each country, each language will have different meanings and moods. Sometimes I wonder if what we intended was conveyed well. I’ve always been curious.” He adds that BXB is grateful to their overseas fans for loving their music despite the difference in languages.
Hamin ends the conference with a sweet message for their fans: “As the new year dawns, I feel very honored and proud, and hope we’ll be able to share good news about BXB. In this new year, I hope we spend a bright and hopeful 2024 together with BXB stages and songs.”
