Blair Lee, a Toronto originated artist, has released her newest EP titled “LIMBO,” which has captured the ears of nostalgic listeners all around. The EP starts with a familiar acoustic chord progression, and follows with a harmony structure that soothes the listener to Lee’s sound. The listener gently falls into step with Lee’s ethereal voice and cozy lyrical composition.
Lee has also released an official music video to accompany the song “Don’t Wanna Leave,” and it gives the listener a visual context to the song. The music video is styled as a video diary entry in Lee’s personal life. There is a push and pull between Lee (as the subject) and everyone else. She wants to stay out late every night, and there is a certain danger lurking in the shadows waiting for her to tire out. It is a compelling visual accompaniment to the song, and reveals the heart of “Don’t Wanna Leave.”
“Fold,” one of the pieces on the EP, literally “folds” the listener into Lee’s entrancing voice. It creates a safe space for the listener to breathe and feel the emotion of the song. As much as the lyrics are a gut-wrenching cry for help, it is a comforting acoustic sound in a world full of digital noise. “Fold’s” chorus is a repeating line of Please don’t go, and the listener can sympathize with Lee on an emotional level as well as a musical one.
Blair Lee keeps the musical emotion at the forefront of her entire EP, but as the listener looks deeper into the lyrics of each piece, Lee can hook them even further into her narrative. Her musical voice stays consistently level, and consoles the listeners into staying in the present and the now.
