A rising star in the indie-folk scene from Los Angeles, Asia Chow, has just released her third single, “The Sleeping Dog,” drawing inspiration from her beloved dog, Aba. The song captures a moment of serene contentment, mirrored through the lens of her pet’s peaceful demeanor. Guided by a slide guitar and Asia’s distinctive, rich vibrato, “The Sleeping Dog,” evokes the intimate ambiance of a local bar song, fitting snugly between classics by the likes of Linda Ronstadt and Neil Young. 

Asia, reflecting on her deep affinity for dogs, humorously acknowledges her “toxic personality trait” of acknowledging every dog she encounters. This love for dogs becomes evident in her music and daily life with her dog Aba serving as a muse for the songs lyrics. Explaining the song, Asia shares how observing Aba’s tranquil presence prompted her to appreciate the present moment more fully. 

While creating “The Sleeping Dog,” Asia aimed to move away from the “sad girl vibes” that had characterized her earlier work, opting instead for a heartfelt tribute to her iconic dog. The song’s official video, a collaboration with friends and family, showcases various dogs in everyday situations, seamlessly blending Asia’s passion for music with her love for dogs. This creative mixture serves as a grounding exercise for Asia, encapsulating her dual passions in a timeless indie-folk piece.
