Closing out a two day New York weekend for 2ourdust (pronounced like Tourdust), Fall Out Boy electrified a sold-out MVP Arena in Albany on March 24, 2024. The iconic pop-punk band from Chicago, known for their high-octane performances and anthem hits, did not disappoint their eager fans. The night started off on a high note with performances by GamesWePlay, Hot Mulligan and Jimmy Eat World, giving the audience just a taste of what they were in for when Fall Out Boy took the stage.
From the moments the lights dimmed and the first chords of, “Love From the Otherside,” rang through the venue, the crowd erupted into a frenzy of pure joy and excitement. Fall Out Boy, consisting of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley, owned the stage with their signature confidence and raw energy.
The setlist was a carefully curated mix of their classic hits, deep cuts and new tracks, ensuring fans both old and new were thoroughly entertained. Tracks from Take This to Your Grave and From Under the Cork Tree, especially, had the crowd roaring with energy. They threw the audience a curve ball when they played, “Reinventing the Wheel to Run Myself Over,” for the first time since 2007.
What made this night extra special was the fact it was the one year anniversary of their latest album, So Much for Stardust. They made sure to acknowledge this day by including extra songs from the album into their setlist. Patrick played a beautiful piano medley featuring, “The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years)” and “What a Time to Be Alive,” from the LP. Following the medley was two more tracks off the album, including the title track, followed by a magic 8 ball pick for their song “I Am My Own Muse,” which the crowd absolutely exploded for.
It wasn’t just the music that captivated the audience, it was the unmistakable connection between the band and their fans. Pete frequently engaged with the crowd, sharing anecdotes and expressing gratitude for their unwavering support throughout the years. It may be a 17,500 person capacity arena, but this personal touch created a more intimate atmosphere.
Fall Out Boy closed out their show with an electrifying performance of ,“Saturday,” like they have always done. With Pete getting into the crowd for the final seconds of the song while confetti rained down all around the venue, it was the perfect send off to an unforgettable night.
