In recent news, Nashville-based alternative pop/rock artist Kitty Coen released two new singles ‘Cadillac’ and ‘El paso’ inspired by her times in West Texas and her love for Western films. Kitty Coen is a rising star in the indie music scene and has been recognized for her unique blends of alt-rock, pop rock, and witch rock. Her music draws listeners in with an enchanting charm.
Released on January 26th, ‘Cadillac’ feels like an old western movie with a deep bass line and alluring vocals that paint a unique picture of a smoky night with a Cadillac, and “talking smack”. The song gives off mysterious energy. Coen describes it as a “Desolate night in a West Texas saloon”. The artist heavily relates to old spaghetti Western films and the very famous director Quentin Tarantino as inspirations that bring up her roots to a fresh sound that is uniquely her own.
The second single, ‘El Paso’ was also released on January 26th, and picks up where ‘Cadillac’ left off, conjuring up a southern Gothic aura that wraps up the listener. ‘el paso’ brings light to the pain that addiction can inflict on users and their loved ones. This western acoustic Coen says is “A true story about love and loss in my life. Being in love with an addict is one of the hardest things a person can go through.” Coen points out country hitters like Noah Cyrus, and Katy Musgraves as her influences and reveals that she intends to keep going in this musical direction. She says “I’ve always been a Bluegrass girl at heart even if I’ve been fighting it my whole life.”
Born in Missouri, and raised in Texas, her upbringing deeply influenced Coen’s music. Her music is a mix of Southern charm and modern indie influences, creating a sound uniquely her own. After beginning her career in live music in early 2020 with her song ‘Dark Soul’, Coen toured across the U.S. supporting bands like Mt. Joy and Jive Talk. She also appeared in Austin, Texas’s SXSW (South by Southwest festival). People around the world have taken notice of Kitty Coen’s unique sound and eye-catching aesthetic. Bringing up imagery of the Texas life she once lived, Kitty Coen’s enchanted storylines and mesmerizing vocals are on full display in her latest singles ‘Cadillac’ and ‘El paso’ as well as her other album ‘Disco Lemonade’ out everywhere.
